VIVA MAGAZINE
Looking at vintage fashion magazines is really nothing new, but I recently discovered Viva magazine from the 1970s—an adult magazine for women published by Bob Guccione and Penthouse.
V magazine did a great write up of Viva on their blog a couple months ago.
I was drawn to the gauzy soft core images- suggestive fashion with 1970′s natural nudity.
But articles, yes the articles- would keep any progressive intellectual with liberal and feminist politics coming back for more! Some highlights are “Erica Jong: An Intimate Conversation”, “The Myth of Equal Pay”, and “Losing Your Man to Another Man”.
I thought it was going to be more smutty, but instead I found it to be “fashion legit”- some great fashion shoots by Arthur Elgort. And Anna Wintour was the Fashion Editor in 1977! How progressive!
