Thing to Do This Friday…

Posted on by Kristina

Looking for something to do this weekend in New York?  This Friday we’ll be dancing at Girls & Boys at Webster Hall.  This week’s party is presented by the lovely Justine D. and features live sets by Glass Candy and the Chromatics (both bands are on the Italo disco revival label Italians Do It Better).

It’s guaranteed to be a good time, don’t miss out!  Buy tickets here.  So we know what we’re doing on Friday night but now we need to figure out which 80%20′s to wear…

Learn more about the bands below…

Glass Candy is an American indie electronic band from Portland, Oregon that formed in 1996. The band consists of vocalist Ida No and guitarist/synthesist/general producer Johnny Jewel. While the band’s early work blends noise rock with electropop, their later work incorporates Italo disco. The band is known for evolving through the years since their original collaboration, and experimenting with various musical genres. They have released a number of albums since the early 2000s, their most recent being 2008′s Deep Gems.

Chromatics originally hailed from Seattle as a quartet featuring vocalist Adam Miller, drummer Hannah Blilie, guitarist Devin Welch, and bassist Michelle Nolan. That lineup debuted in 2002 with a Calvin Johnson-produced 7” on Gold Standard Laboratories — a split with Die Monitr Batss — and followed with the similarly GSL-issued Chrome Rats Vs Basement Ruts LP.   Chrome Rats received critical acclaim but the lineup dissolved soon after and Adam Miller relocated Chromatics to Portland, teaming up with Glass Candy’s Johnny Jewel, Ruth Radelet on lead vocals, and Nat Walker on percussion and saxophone. The new lineup of Chromatics has a more lo-fi electronic sound as opposed to the earlier dub and no-wave sounds. (via Girl & Boys)
