Fall 2012 Video Lookbook featuring Trop Rouge’s Christina Caradona

We’re proud to present our Fall 2012 video, featuring style blogger Christina Caradona of Trop Rouge. Our Creative Director Ce Ce Chin was inspired to feature someone who truly embodies the Eighty Twenty Do-It-Yourself spirit and was immediately drawn to collaborate with Caradona, one of her favorite style bloggers and supporters of the brand. As Ce Ce explains, the brand is “about the 20% of your life that makes 80% of the difference” and Caradona, a gorgeous self starter in the fashion and entertainment industry, not only possesses a unique sense of style but is living the life she loves in pursuit of her dreams.

Photographed at Life:Curated in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

For the video lookbook, Christina explores Brooklyn neighborhoods Williamsburg and Greenpoint in our shoes.  And… she even skateboards, in 80%20 wedges! The soundtrack “Boy” is provided by up-and coming indie quartet Those Darlins from their sophomore album, Screws Get Loose. “There’s a natural synthesis of working with a rising indie band and an ambitious, entrepreneurial muse”.

This Fall, the brand offers an eclectic array of pieces that transition the working city girl into her weekends – from attending art openings, to concert-going, and hanging out around town. Ce Ce presents classic silhouettes with modern twists, such as, the Quimby printed haircalf and kidskin leather creepers, the Eliotte Original Hidden Wedge™ desert boots in a variety of materials – pony printed leather, festive textiles, and traditional wool, and the Mag contrast bottomed ankle strap flatforms. Lush pebbled nubuck leathers and eye-popping prints adorn the Fall 2012 line. Also keep an eye out for new heeled styles such as the Larson and the Callie. The collection ranges from $99 to $250, proving there’s something for every fashionista at every price point. Find select Fall 2012 styles in our online shop and stores across the country and internationally.

It was great to collaborate with Christina on this project and support her in all of her future endeavors.

I Break Horses | Wired

While on a recent US tour supporting M83, I Break Horses (Maria Lindén and musical partner Fredrik Balck) stopped into Room 205 for a deeply weird live session during a brutal heatwave. It was HOT and they were sick as dogs, so they stripped to their underwear before a single note warbled from their synths.

Residing in Stockholm, Sweden, I Break Horses quietly crafted their 2011 debut album Hearts via stolen moments gathered up over a span of three years. Although heavily (and openly) influenced by MBV, Slowdive and Jesus & Mary Chain, I Break Horses is far from an exercise in typical shoegaze fare.

Frankie Rose | Know Me

Frankie Rose’s second album Interstellar was released in February (on Slumberland) to universal acclaim.  Within these gorgeous songs, we hear the confident swagger of a singer and auteur fully aware of how to build the simplest of pop moves into aching, full-blown melodramas, and grab hold of an emotion to ride its darker waves.

Interstellar’s epic, widescreen pop never sacrifices feeling for polish, but instead uses big sound, savvy arrangements, and spacious production to bring us even closer to the emotions in the songs.

Check out the video for “Know Me” directed by Ricardo Rivera:

Frankie is taking to the road in the US again for a series of shows in select cities, including stops at the MidPoint and Pygmalion festivals (dates below). She’ll also be releasing a new single for album highlight “Night Swim” that includes two album demos, along with a limited bonus CD featuring a pair of excellent remixes from The Go! Team and Fort Romeau.

Bat for Lashes | Laura

Posted on by Kristina

Bat for Lashes‘ Natasha Khan has kept us waiting in suspense for her third album, The Haunted Man out this October on Capitol Records. “What’s a Girl to Do?” was our jam from Fur and Gold, “Daniel” was on repeat from Two Suns and we think her latest track “Laura” is divine. We love Natasha’s voice and she’s pulling at our heartstrings with “Laura,” a beautifully pained ballad about a nostalgic romance.

Dana Buoy | Call to Be

Posted on by Kristina

Akron/Family percussionist Dana Janssen aka Dana Buoy released his first solo LP, Summer Bodies on Lesfe this past May. And we just recently stumbled upon his first video directed by Sam Molleur starring Dana himself. The premise of the video is quite amusing. Janssen takes up jogging and spots a pretty lady to which he starts to follow her (in a mostly endearing way) everywhere, literally! Until she makes it pretty clear she’s not into it…

He doesn’t get his happy ending in the video, but you know what Janssen? This song is the real star, don’t worry about the girl. We’ve all been there.  Take a listen to “Call to Be”, we promise that the pretty, carefree pop is what you’ve been yearning for this summer.

Royal Headache | Girls

Posted on by 8020shoes

There’s a lot of garage rock out there today, but arguably not as soulful or awesome on stage as Sydney’s Royal Headache. What we love most about their self-titled album is it could be 1975 or 2012, the sound is kind of timeless. If you are looking for blasts of catchy hooks, and lo-fi garage rock magic then you should take a listen to Royal Headache.

Our favorite album tracks are “Girl”, “Down the Lane”, and “Distant and Vague” – all under 2:30 and pack a punch. The band have a bunch of upcoming dates supporting The Black Keys this fall.

Check out their video for Girls featuring footage of the boys from tour.

Ladyhawke | Sunday Drive

Posted on by Kristina

Has is really been almost four years since Ladyhawke dropped her self-titled debut? That album is such a studio staple and can we talk about how awesome ‘Paris is Burning’ is?

Needless to say, we’re excited for her new video for ‘Sunday Drive’ directed by Mat O’Brien. ‘Sunday Drive’ is the second single from the forthcoming album entitled ‘Anxiety’ due to drop in the US on May 29th! Here’s to hoping for a slew of US tour dates!

Keep Shelly in Athens | Our Own Dream

Just loving the new track “Our Own Dream” from Keep Shelly in Athens! The haunting vocals will stay with you.

If you’re looking for their first two EPs, you’re in luck. There is a limited repress of In Love With Dusk and Our Own Dream, to be released on Forest Family Records.

Check out the video directed by Thanasis Tsimpinis. Note:  The video is a beautifully shot narrative, with some slightly provocative moments.

Sunlight | Bag Raiders

Bag Raiders is a synth-pop house duo of DJs Chris Stracey and Jack Glass from Sydney, Australia. This song has been my anthem for welcoming in spring. It’s the perfect beat for cruising on a warm orange day with the windows rolled down and wind in your hair. The track also features vocals from electroboy Dan Black.

Check out the music video directed by Fleur&Manu, and produced by Division. It makes you want to cancel all your plans and go on an adventure…with a monkey.

La Sera | Please Be My Third Eye

Posted on by Kristina

La Sera (aka Katy Goodman, 1/3 of Vivian Girls) is preparing for the release of her sophomore album Sees the Light on March 26th through Hardly Art. I’ve always been a fan of La Sera and loved the dreamy pop from her self-titled debut album. From listening to her first single “Please Be My Third Eye”, it’s a little harder and more aggressive pop, but I like what I hear!

Watch her colorfully fun video for the single directed by Vice Cooler.
