2012 Central Park Summerstage

Posted on by 8020shoes

SummerStage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City since 1986! Each year consists of a diverse lineup representing a breadth of genres and cultures and perform in an outdoor setting accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. It must be noted that all shows go on RAIN OR SHINE and are only canceled in the event of dangerous lightning during a performance. I once stood in the rain to catch TV on the Radio’s set and was completely drenched but it was worth it.

Here’s our SummerStage short-list. To view the full event calendar, head over to the event’s official site.

We’ve been fans of Brooklyn band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for a while now; we still listen to their first full-length, Young Adult Friction on a regular basis.  They just released their sophomore album Belong, which is now available on iTunes in the US and UK.

The band is kicking off a US tour this week and if you haven’t seen them live – you have to! See where the band is playing in a city near you.

Check out their fun new video for the single “Heart in Your Heartbreak” (via Pitchfork):

The Creators Project teams up with Coachella

Posted on by Kristina

This past June, we attended the The Creators Project, an Intel and VICE-headed event series that launched in New York at Milk Studios.  It was the first of four events and it was truly groundbreaking event -highlighting the best of today’s musical acts, art, and installations, with a wide range of interesting panel discussions.  See our coverage from the event here.

We were pretty thrilled to hear that The Creators Project is teaming up with the Coachella Music and Arts Festival this year!  Coachella always has the most amazing lineups and they’ve just released this year’s roster.  Some of the bands we’re excited about are Arcade Fire (first saw them in 2004 and it was awesome),  Suede (so major!), Cut Copy, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and it looks like Death From Above 1979 are reuniting for the show too.

Wth the Creators Project collaborating with the festival this year, we can only imagine how much fun and inspiring the three day event will be.  It will definitely add a new visual aspect to the festival as they will teaming up with headlining acts to create new works of art, curate art installations on the festival grounds, and also bringing some of their favorite International musical acts to perform too.

The Creators Project will be making a HUGE announcement on February 16th with more details.  Stay tuned here.

We’ve already marked our calendars for April 15th-17th!

Fashion’s Night Out 2010

Posted on by Kristina

From Brooklyn to Brazil to Boston, the fashion industry is gearing up for this year’s global extravaganza Fashion’s Night Out!

Last year’s event was pretty epic, with a night full of shopping events, parties, and surprises we’re looking forward to September 10th’s festivities.  We caught The Rapture play at the Prada store in Soho last year and it was amazing!  Be prepared and check out the event listings to plan out your night here.  You can plan your night right on the official FNO site.  We’re already scoping out our picks for the night.

Events we’re excited for:

Ben Sherman will be hosting a party from 6 – 10pm, we have playing in the store 2 of the hottest acts around DJing, first off are New York’s own Pains of Being Pure at Heart followed up by a storming set by UK act Does It Offend You, Yeah, who are taking time out from the Nylon US tour where they are supporting Kele from Bloc Party. Come down enjoy a few beers and sample some smooth Glenmorangie whiskey. We also have something very special happening outside the store on the night but you will have to come down to see what is going on- you might get lucky!

96 Spring Street New York NY 10012

(We love The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Does It Offend You!  We wish they were both playing live sets, but we’ll take a DJ set.)

Head to the Double Gold Standard for jewelry designer, Jules Kim’s line, Bijules S/S 2011 Presentation will launch with a VIP reception in conjunction with Fashion’s Night Out on Friday, September 10th and will feature a highly anticipated screening of Jules Kim’s short film shot by renowned film director, Griffin. More details to come, please check on Bijules Facebook page.

GoldBar 389 Broome Street (between Centre Market Pl & Mulberry) New York NY 10013

(Very excited to see Jules’ short film!)

Diane von Furstenberg takes Fashion’s Night Out to the digital universe with The DVF and HP Experience Lounge, a multimedia event that will transform the DVF boutique and gallery into an interactive fashion playground. Hosted by, the evening will feature cutting-edge fashion installations, complete with a ‘Fall Favorites’ photo booth featuring DVF items curated by editors on display for shoppers to utilize when browsing their most-desired DVF looks. Photos can be printed, posted to Facebook or streamed live into the lounge on social feed monitors, allowing guests to engage with the fashion community and interact with DVF. Computer terminals and touch screens will feature up-to-the-minute news about FNO from around the city, and the world!

Siren Music Festival | Celebrates 10 Years!

Posted on by Kristina

SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL sponsored by the Village Voice returns to Coney Island this Saturday, July 17th from noon – 9pm to celebrate its tenth anniversary!  And the best part is that it’s FREE!

Fourteen bands will perform on two stages with a lineup consisting of local NY bands and touring headlining acts such as Matt & Kim, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

There’s definitely something for everyone during the festival.  If you’ve never been to Coney Island, this is the perfect excuse to hear some great music, walk the boardwalk and get a Nathan’s hot dog. Did we mention the rumbling sounds of the historic Cyclone rollercoaster?

For full schedule details, go to the official Siren Festival site.

The Siren After Party will feature performances by We Are Scientists, Lightspeed Champion, and Bad Girlfriend at The Music Hall of Williamsburg.  For more ticket info on the afterparty, go here.
