Doesn’t this Summer feel like it’s flying by? There are so many events and activities happening in New York right now, it’s easy for the time to fly when you’re a busy bee.
Our design intern Shelby checked out the amazing Florence Welch better known as, Florence and the Machine perform for the Good Morning America Concert series in Central Park. She belted out crowd favorites like “Dog Days are Over” and “Cosmic Love.” And she looked fabulous of course!
All concerts are free and open to the public and take place from 7-9AM and air live during the show.
We were very excited to see MoMA PS1‘s announcement for this year’s Warm Up 2011, beginning July 2 and taking place every Saturday this summer through September 3.
Can you believe it’s in its 14th year?! The series will continue it’s tradition of introducing audiences to the best in live DJs, music, performance, and sound.
The annual series is held in MoMA PS1′s courtyard, and every year there is new setting and environment to the year prior. This year features Holding Pattern by Interboro Partners, an immersive environment that is the winning design of MoMA PS1′s 12th annual Young Architects Program.
The lineup was put together by a curated committee of Dean Bein, head of True Panther Sounds; Kris Chen, head of A & R at XL Recordings; Robin Carolan, head of Tri Angle Records; Jonathan Galkin, co-founder of DFA Records; Brandon Stosuy, senior writer for Stereogum and contributing editor for The Believer; and Matt Werth, label head of RVNG Intl.
I’m most excited to see the changing installations by CONFETTISYSTEM, Fort Makers, Nightwood, and Thunder Horse Video, will accentuate the Warm Up stage, organized by Jocelyn Miller, MoMA PS1.
Don’t miss out on the series! Held every Saturday from 2-9PM in MoMA PS1′s courtyard.

How do trends and creativity become contagious? What defines an “influencer?”
INFLUENCERS A new short film by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson explores what it means to be an influencer and how trends and creativity become contagious today in music, fashion, and entertainment.
The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach.
Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today’s pop culture. ”Influencers” belongs to the new generation of short films, webdocs, which combine the documentary style and the online experience.
One of our fave new sites is Cliktrips for suggestions and advice on cool places to visit, must things to eat, and good tunes.
Their About page really spoke to us:
“We love to travel, but we hate travel sites. We’re not super rich (yet!) so high end travel sites don’t appeal to us, and we’re too grown up for hostel and backpacker sites. We love our families, but “family vacations” aren’t what were into right now (Sorry, Mom!). We like style, adventure, great food, refreshing drinks, good music and most importantly privacy and understated luxury. We want to share the good stuff with you.”
We think they hit the nail on the head and we’re so happy to have discovered this gem. The information is honest and helpful, the photos want to make you hop on a plane (hi Jamaica – I want to visit), and we like the music tips too.
Indie Screen‘s mission is to connect independent cinema, music, and performers of all kinds and provide a relaxed and inclusive forum where arts and culture are experienced with all 5 senses. And to keep patrons on their toes, they constantly change their event programming and menus to keep the project fresh.
We love the concept behind Indie Screen and support projects that bring the creative community together.
They have some great films scheduled for September such as, Micmacs directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie, The City of Lost Children), I am Lovestarring Tilda Swinton, and Jean-Michel Basquiat – The Radiant Child, directed by Tamra Davis who “pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast.”
I am Love has been on our must-see flick list all summer. With Hurricane Earl threatening to bring storms to the East Coast this weekend, it might be the perfect time to catch a movie.
Here’s the trailer for I am Love.

Those who are buzzing about The Runaways movie that opens this weekend must also see Foxes, a 1980 teen flick about disenchanted youth in Los Angeles. Jodie Foster stars in this film that features the original Runaways lead singer Cherie Currie as a gorgeous teen living life too fast. Other actors who started their careers here include Scott Baio, Laura Dern, Randy Quaid and the guy who played Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. How does Dakota Fanning compare to the real Cherie Currie?
We love this cult film genre- teenage gritty loss of innocence, exploratory drug and sexual behavior, and many, many broken hearts. We especially like watching the fashion in these movies from the 1970s and 1980s- always inspiring to us design wise. Can you suggest some other films for us to watch?
