Neo Preppies, Emo Preppies, Preppy Punks
“True Prep”, a follow up to The Preppy Handbook (1980), is currently in the works. The New York Times ran a detailed article about the new book this Sunday and eloquently presumes, “The first book came as the country was tipping into recession, and it was fun to hate the rich. This one arrives with the country struggling to emerge from the biggest economic downtown since the Great Depression and it’s once again fun to hate the rich.”
Our take on the preppy fashion has been less about what mainstream rich preppies are wearing and more about the trend that seems more underground. Neo Preppies, Emo Preppies, Preppy Punks….
The original Preppy Handbook addresses this subculture of traditional preppies in the section called “The Punk Prep Connection”.
