Alexander Payne’s new family dramedy The Descendants follows the emotional journey of Matt King (played by George Clooney), a successful lawyer and indifferent father of two girls after his wife is in the hospital after a fatal boating accident. During this difficult time it’s revealed that King’s wife was having an affair. And to make the blow even worse he learns the news from his teenage daughter, Alexandra played by breakout star Shailene Woodley. The film is about family dynamics, reflecting on the past and looking to the future.

There’s already much Oscar buzz surrounding the performances by George Clooney and Woodley, best known for her role as a teenage mom in The Secret Life of an American Teenager. On top of the great performances in the film, did I mention that much of the film takes place on the beautiful island of Kauai? Expect lots of shots filled with lush green landscapes and perfect sunsets.
