Artist We Like | Vladimir Dubossarsky & Alexander Vinogradov

Posted on by Kristina

Ce Ce first saw the painting below by Russian painter Vladimir Dubossarky at Miami Art Basel last December.  Since 1994, Dubossarky has collaborated in an art duo based in Moscow, Russia with Alexander Vinogradov. At the start of their career together they adopted the style of socialist realism, “an officially sanctioned art practice under the soviet regime.” Their early works resembled posters for non-existent thrillers and sleazy porn flicks. While working with the ideas of social order and laborers – they put a modern twist on an outdated practice resulting in a collection of works that bring socialistic fantasies visible to the viewer.

“Vinogradov and Doubossarsky’s synthetic approach to painting fuses elements from many different formal and iconographic sources such as Socialist Realism, Sots Art, Soviet magazines of the 1950s, contemporary Russian advertising, and international pop culture.” (Deitch Gallery)

Based on “Morning in the Pine Forest”

The duo currently have an exhibition up until December 30th, 2010 at Triumph Gallery in Moscow.
