Erika Spring | Hidden

Posted on by Kristina

Singer/keyboardist Erika Forster (Au Revoir Simone) has released the first single ‘Hidden‘ off her forthcoming self-titled debut EP, coming out on pop label Cascine on July 10th. Backed by Jorge Elbrecht of Violens on percussion (who she released a 7″split with last year), she experimented with effects and instrumentation, recording a handful of tracks at his Greenpoint home studio in 2011.

Erika first discovered her affinity for keyboards with Brooklyn band, Dirty On Purpose,  and it wasn’t before long that she formed Au Revoir Simone with similarly synth-minded friends. In 2010 the group was put on hold so that members could focus on continuing education and starting a family. Erika seized this opportunity to explore some personal musical territory and we’re glad she did!

Take a listen to her first single, “Hidden”.

See Erika live:

7/12 – New York, NY – Ivana Helsinki Space

8/01 – Los Angeles – The Echo

8/02 – San Francisco, CA – Rickshaw Stop (Popscene)

Movie to Watch | Moonrise Kingdom

Posted on by 8020shoes

Director Wes Anderson’s critically acclaimed, Moonrise Kingdom is a summer movie must see. The film is set in the Summer of 1965 on an island off the coast of New England. The small town is swept into a frenzy when young lovers, Sam (Jared Gillman) and Suzy (Kara Hayward) devise a plan to runaway together. How romantic…

The film’s features a stellar ensemble cast. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand are hysterical and heart warming as the dysfunctional parents of wild Suzy Bishop. Edward Norton (LOVE) is fantastic as the comedic and clueless troop leader, Scout Master Ward and Bruce Willis delivers a likeable performance as the small town’s lonely sheriff.

If you love “The Catcher in the Rye” then you will love Moonrise Kingdom. The film’s young love theme and summer time feel will leave anyone nostalgic for summers past. So if you’re in the mood for a movie that will leave you smiling, call your local theater and see if Moonrise Kingdom is playing near you!

P.S. The costumes and set design are AMAZING.

HAIM | Forever

Posted on by Kristina

LA sister trio HAIM have a brand new video directed by Austin Peters for the title track off their Forever EP! Comprised of bassist Este, lead guitarist Danielle, rhythm guitar, keyboard, and percussionist Alana Haim, the girls spent their childhood playing with their parents in a family band, and have now ventured out on their own. We recently had the opportunity to check them out live at Santo’s Party House and we were thoroughly impressed by their stage presence and musicianship. These young ladies kick some serious ass.

Check out their video for ‘Forever’. The Guardian (UK) describe the video as “the perfect mix of studied, cool, 90s teen drama and Destiny’s Child dance moves.”

The girls will be touring this summer with Mumford & Sons on select dates, including shows with St. Vincent, Dawes, Justin Townes Earle, and more.
