Kraftwerk – Retrospective 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 | April 10–17, 2012

Posted on by Kristina

Over eight consecutive nights, MoMA presented a retrospective of the visual experiments of Kraftwerk with a live presentation in the Museum’s Marron Atrium. Each evening consisted of a live performance accompanied by 3-D visuals of one of Kraftwerk’s studio albums—Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans-Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986),The Mix (1991), and Tour de France (2003)—in the order of their release.

As soon as the tickets went on sale, I was sitting at my desk (like almost every other person I know) with a computer screen filled with multiple ticket windows, just hoping I would be able to score at least one ticket. No such luck…but then a week before the event was set to kick off, JACKPOT! Thanks to Roy Dank (Wurst), I happily joined him for night 3 – Trans-Europe Express.

The performance started promptly at 8:30PM, and it was two-hours of pure bliss. The sound was amazing and the 3-D visuals were top-notch. It was truly such a memorable evening and I’m glad that I can say “I was there.”

The Metrocard Project by Melanie Chernock started out as a class project to create a deck of cards and turned into a great experiment on ways to redesign the iconic Metrocard. If you are a native New Yorker, you know that a Metrocard is a must in this city.

We admire Melanie’s creativity and love her concepts! See a few below and check out the project in its entirety over at her site.

My Photo Diary

Thank you 80%20 for giving me the opportunity to guest blog, and thank you all for reading! For my last post here, I wanted to include a photo diary as a glimpse into my life and what inspires me. Follow more of my adventures at http://heyprettything.com.

Shoes shoes shoes! In addition to my 80%20′s, this metallic-mesh two-faced pair by Maison Martin Margiela is one of my favorites I bought a while ago but am breaking out again for spring.

I’m currently planning my wedding and this is a DIY sign I made for our save the dates.

I love food! This is from a post I wrote on the Blind Pig Bistro, a hole in the wall restaurant in Seattle that we found recently and loved. I’m staring adoringly at a plate of roasted kale and quinoa salad with a poached egg, radish, and crispy capers.

Traveling always has a way to wake up my senses. I took this photo of one of my favorite places in Italy called Civita di Bagnoregio, or the “Dying City.”

Blue Scholars said, “Proximity to water makes the soul a little gentler…” and I think they got it spot on. Feeling at peace by the ocean in Cancun, Mexico.
