We love plush toys, in fact Ce Ce sees a line of stuffed animals somewhere in her design future. We can’t help but say “awe, so cute” about Matt Campbell’s art, but we get it that’s not his message. Campbell has taken these stuffed animals “wrenched out of the blue (the natural living world) and thrown into the black (the artificial or “dead” world that we create)” to display his views on the affects of pollution.
We agree with Mocoloco‘s statement , “this work is symbolic of our relationship with nature: we claim to love it, but we sure do mess around with it as well.”
Merge Records released Volume Two, the second album from She & Him (M.Ward and Zooey Deschanel) last week and they played two sold out shows at the Bowery Ballroom just nights ago. Their first single, “In the Sun” features guest vocals from the band, Tilly and the Wall, not to mention a fun and lighthearted music video for the track too. We love it!
The Preppy Handbook continues to inspire us for Fall 10. The shoes that were Preppy essentials in 1980 are completely on trend for 2010. Has it really been 30 years since the publication of the satirical style book?
After seeing the documentary “Bill Cunningham New York” at the MoMA last week, we have a new appreciation for NY Times photographer. We had no idea he was 87 years old and shooting on film, not digital. And that he shot for the original Details in the 1980s, which was an underground magazine then, much more like the early Interview and Paper Mags. We’ve searched for one of those Details back issues on line and no luck. This Sunday Cunningham ran a slide show piece in the NYT online edition comparing Parisian women and American women and their “relationship” to their shoes. We love the part where the women are changing from heels to flats outside the fashion show tent!
The Molly in net mesh and leather from our upcoming Summer 2010 Collection is featured in the April Issue of Marie Claire. Keep an eye out for this style in stores in May!
We’re also featured in European publications such as, Vogue Pelle and Flair.
The new MGMT album leaked and the band wanted their fans to be able to hear it straight from the source. You can preview the new album at whoismgmt.com. We took a listen to the album, Congratulations in the studio today and it hasn’t resonated with us…yet. Maybe it’s one of those albums that takes a couple of listens? What’s the hit of this album? Does it live up to all the hype surrounding this sophomore effort? Take a listen for yourself and let us know what you think of the new album. The album is officially release on April 13th.
“Bill Cunningham New York” documentary opens at the New Directors/New Films series tomorrow at MoMA. Oh this is a must see. Buy your tickets in advance, this is sure to sell out!

Those who are buzzing about The Runaways movie that opens this weekend must also see Foxes, a 1980 teen flick about disenchanted youth in Los Angeles. Jodie Foster stars in this film that features the original Runaways lead singer Cherie Currie as a gorgeous teen living life too fast. Other actors who started their careers here include Scott Baio, Laura Dern, Randy Quaid and the guy who played Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. How does Dakota Fanning compare to the real Cherie Currie?
We love this cult film genre- teenage gritty loss of innocence, exploratory drug and sexual behavior, and many, many broken hearts. We especially like watching the fashion in these movies from the 1970s and 1980s- always inspiring to us design wise. Can you suggest some other films for us to watch?
We’ve been feeling very “preppy chic” these days. In fact, we’ve been studying the Preppy Handbook for Fall 10 inspiration.
How cute this guy? The original Preppy Handbook was published in 1980, but we’re seeing lots of guys downtown today who dress like this. It’s almost as if Preppy is the New Punk!
